Over the past 5 years, I've been through four bands. I've progressed from being a guitarist to a vocalist with the ability to play a variety of instruments. My best friend, Khaled Sabah, and I decided that we would search for people to start our own band. We were only a group of two, but had so much potential to start something that would last forever.
We found our first band member, Karim Soliman. Karim was enthusiastic about the idea of practices, concerts, producing, and recording our songs. Every Thursday, we would go to practice. It was rough at first. Timing was an issue of ours as we had no idea that we would be so out of place. We were initially a rock band with the ability to change genres when needed. Our first few songs were covers to Metallica's main hits. One of the rehearsals was very intense. We had no one to sing the verses and chorus so we decided to look for new band members. It was to no avail. We kept searching and coming up empty-handed. I decided to take the intiative and practice singing the song. The band members liked my vocals and told me that I should sing that in the upcoming show which was the annual school talent show.
Our show didn't go as planned. We were complacent and the nerves had the better of us. Little by little, Karim was getting too much control of the band and where it was going. He was one of my best friends so I couldn't just tell him off that instant. I took it slowly and I told him that we're dismantling the band. I was unhappy that my time and effort was wasted as my dream was being crushed each passing minute. Late one night, I called up my friend who had been with me for 14 years in the school. He asked me if we could form a band. I jumped off my seat and accepted the offer. We recruited my best friend, Khaled Sabah. He was the best drummer in our school and we were always the backbone of the bands. The band came to be known as "Linger".
